Dry Wall Services FAQ
Addressing your dry wall questions and concerns.
What drywall texture is standard in Arizona?
Knockdown is the most common finish across Phoenix-area housing, with orange peel also widespread and smooth level-five finishes more usual on higher-end and contemporary work. Matching an existing texture on a repair or an addition is harder than applying a new one, because the original was hand-applied and no two applicators produce identical results. We sample and get it approved before doing a whole room.
Can you repair drywall without replacing the whole wall?
Almost always. Patching, taping and re-texturing a damaged area is normal work, and the visible challenge is blending the texture and the paint rather than the repair itself. Where a wall has water damage the honest answer is different — we find and fix the source first, because patching over an active leak just hides it until it is worse.
What are drywall finish levels?
They are an industry scale describing how much finishing work a surface receives, from level zero up to level five. Most Arizona residential work is finished to level four and then textured; level five is a fully skimmed smooth surface, used where flat paint and raking light would show every imperfection. Specifying the level matters because a smooth wall finished to level four will disappoint.
How long does drywall take to dry between coats?
Arizona's dry air speeds compound drying considerably compared with wetter climates, which helps the schedule but is not an excuse to rush — compound that skins over on the surface while still wet underneath will crack or shrink back later. We work to the material's requirements rather than to the weather's flattery.
Do you handle the painting after drywall?
Yes. Drywall and painting are separate trades but they are coupled — the finish level, the texture and the primer all determine how the paint reads. Running both means nobody gets to blame the other for the result, which is worth more than it sounds.
